Deconstructed Houndstooth a la The Illustrated Nail

Forever a source of nailspiration, The Illustrated Nail has posted some of the work she and her team did this week at London Fashion Week and I immediately fell in love with this deconstructed houndstooth look she created for Antipodium using ORLY polishes.  Her colour palette was neutrals and metallics but I went for more of a winter theme because I want to embrace some darker colour before I go into full pastel/floral/springtime mode LOL

American Apparel Hunter and Essie Buy Me A Cameo

For anyone who follows me on tumblr, you know of my search for the perfect hunter green.  A lot of the brands that I found that had this sort of colour were not available in the U.K but when I knew I was going down to Dublin, I knew I had to hit up American Apparel and buy this baby.  If you follow me on instagram, you would have been witness to my excitement LOL

I picked some of the shapes that The Illustrated Nail created and just did the line work using a cut down striper brush.  You do need a steady hand to get the lines poker straight and be careful of your brush being too loaded with polish or you will get uneven lines.  My line work is definitely not as good as The Illustrated Nail but I think I did the best I could.

Overall, I'm really pleased with the effect, it's so graphic that you don't immediately get what the pattern is supposed to be but I guess that's the magic of it all.
