#NailBreastCancer - Breast Cancer Awareness Month

So I'm sure many of you know that October is Breast Cancer Awareness month and there are various campaigns going on to help raise money for various charities.  One that has caught my eye is the #NailBreastCancer campaign which is associated with the charity Future Dreams, which splits its money between Breakthrough Breast Cancer and The Haven.  They've teamed up with many nail polish brands, suppliers and publications to help try and promote fundraising in salons which is great.

Models Own Cerise Shine and Pink Veneer

Regular people like myself are encouraged to post a #maniselfie on Instagram and other social media and use the hashtag #NailBreastCancer to help raise awareness.  You can text NAIL10 followed by £1, £2, £3, £5 or whichever amount you'd like to donate to 70070.  If you'd prefer, you can donate £3 to Cancer Research UK by texting BEAT to 70200 but it's so easy to donate through text so there really is no excuse so just choose whichever charity you feel is best for you.

Pop on under the cut to read more about how the nails were done :-)

So you might recognise my giraffe/crocodile print from a good few posts ago.  It's a really cool graphic look that's not that hard to execute so that's why I love it so much.  I actually used my MAC Nail Transformations top coat in Gold Pearl on top of Pink Veneer to give it a slight gold pearl finish but you can't really see it in the photos but in person, it makes the manicure look just that little bit more luxe.  I used a dotter tool for the giraffe print, applying blobs of the darker pink in random shapes and by varying the size of the shapes, it makes for a cool pattern.

For the ring finger design, I painted with the black first, to create a crisp outline for the ribbon, then applied the pink polish on top once the black was dry.  Once the pink was dry, I added the line of white to give the design some extra dimension.  I used my usual detailing brush for all of this work.  It takes a while to do because you have to wait for all the polishes to dry but I think it's worth it.  If you're impatient, I'm sure there are some decals or wraps you could use to get a similar effect.

Now of course you don't have to do anything as detailed or time consuming to help show your support for Breast Cancer Awareness but just paint your nails your favourite shade of pink and post to instagram and elsewhere using the hashtags #nailbreastcancer #maniselfie and remember to share the information to donate as well!

I hope you've enjoyed this post and I'm aware that this post is rather UK-centric but here's some numbers for those in the South and the US -

IRELAND - Text CURE to 50300 to donate €4 (Breast Cancer Ireland)
USA - Text HOPE to 20222 to donate $5 (American Cancer Society)

I'm sure there are far more charities out there who deserve your donation so like I said before, so I little google search and see which one you think is best for you, these are just a few suggestions.  Until next time :-)
