Wet N Wild 1 Step Wonder Gel Polishes* Review

For the past week I've had the pleasure to wear test Wet N Wild's latest polish release, their 1 Step Wonder Gel nail polishes. I'd like to thank the lovely girlies at The Publicity Loft for letting me try them out. I have two shades to show you, Pretty Peas and Coral Support.

The 1 Step Wonder Gel range is Wet N Wild's entry into the no-light gel effect polish like so many brands on the high street have launched. The bottles are opaque to protect the polishes from daylight so the outside colour represents the shade inside. With a name like Pretty Peas, you'd expect a pretty green mint shade but it's more blue-toned, almost a duck-egg blue. Coral Support is more pink-toned than it looks on the outside, especially after application but it could be my ghostly pale skin tone which could make it look so pink.

The polishes have a wide, curved brush which made application really easy. The formula is a bit thinner than I am used to from other gel-effect polishes. It took three coats of each shade to get full opacity and at that, there was still some patchiness on the nails with Pretty Peas. Dry time was relatively quick since the coats were quite thin. I used a striper brush to apply the other colour in these lines on each nail. Not quite tiger print or breton stripe! I did apply a layer of top coat which of course can effect a polish's lasting power but I do this with ALL of my polishes so it makes it a level playing field.

If you follow me on instagram (which you totally should) I have been updating everyone daily on Instagram Stories how the polish has been doing. I am currently writing up this post on day 5/6 and while there is some tip wear and the eventual growing out, the polish has stayed in tact. I think for a budget brand, you can't ask for more really.

Another thing going for Wet N Wild is their recent certification by PETA as being cruelty free! This is something everyone is becoming more aware of and its great to see a really affordable brand joining the ranks of cruelty free brands.

Final thoughts: I think for their low price point, the Wet N Wild 1 Step Wonder Gel polishes do their job well. They don't have the same raised effect as other gel effect polishes due to their thinner formulation but with the aid of a top coat, their staying power is definitely present and the colours pack a punch.

If you're in Ireland (both North and South), go to this website and see where your nearest stockist is. I know I'll be checking out mine for more shades.

  1. I love this post, it's so rare we get a chance to wear test polishes and it's always interesting to know the result.
The colours and design are both gorgeous.
