Pantone Colour(s) of the Year 2016 Nail Art with Models Own Pink Icing and Cornflower Gleam

To get the formalities out of the way first, Happy New Year! I hope 2016 will be everything you hope and wish it to be. Now that that's out of the way, we can chat about Pantone's Colour, or rather Colours of the Year. Usually Pantone choose just the one colour as their trend-setting colour of the year but for 2016, they've made the unprecedented decision to choose not one but two colours.

The shades in question, Rose Quartz and Serenity were presented as meeting in the middle, seamlessly joining together to create a palette completely complementary to one another. Rose Quartz is a pale, warm-toned pink shade and Serenity is a pastel, cool-toned cornflower blue. Pantone chose these colours as they are often representative of the gender binary prevalent in society and as we move forward as a society, it is important for us to question these binaries and explore the concept of gender fluidity, you can find out more here on the Pantone website.

As I usually do, I've delved into my own nail polish collection and compiled what I think are the closest matches to the two shades. My suggestions are by no means exhaustive but it gives you a bit of an idea what is on offer if you'd like to get the two colours of the year on your digits.
I'll start off with the shades from the nail art. I paired two Models Own shades together, Pink Icing from the Icing Collection and Cornflower Gleam from the original Hypergel collection.

I have to say, I did struggle to find a pink shade that was as warm-toned as Rose Quartz but this was the closest shade I could find that wasn't too dark. I think Cornflower Gleam is pretty dead on the money in matching the coolness of Serenity, if perhaps being a little on the darker side.

For the nail art, I took a pretty simple approach and did some colour blocking, framed with white polish. I kind of wanted it to look like a paint chart or sample. I know the balance between the pink and the blue isn't split equally but I think the asymmetry of the design makes it a touch more interesting.

Now let's check out some other potential candidates for Rose Quartz...

Barry M Kiss Me Quick, Nails Inc. Sheraton Street, and Kiko Milano Camelia

and some suggestions for Serenity...

Rimmel London Little Bo Beep, Essie Pret-a-Surfer, and The Body Shop Got the Blues

Most of these are pretty easy to get a hold of and aren't overly expensive so it you'd like to show off your appreciation for this colour combo then check out these suggestions.
