Meebox Review: Red Carpet Nail Art*
Hi everyone. Today's post is a review of a new nail polish subscription box called Meebox. I was kindly sent their February box to try out and show you guys. I've put together a nail art look that I hope showcases the Red Carpet theme and also shows off all the bits and bobs you can get with a Meebox.
February's Meebox featured three nail polishes and some nail studs. The polishes were Smith & Cult Porn-a-Thon (RRP £19), Leighton Denny Feel the Burn (RRP £11), Nails Inc Chelsea Embankment (RRP £14) and Gold Square Studs from Sparkly-Nails (RRP £1.50). Also, five subscribers received a Chanel polish (lucky them!) The box itself costs £20 a month, or £18 if you buy a 3 month subscription. Luckily, I don't have any of these shades in my collection (I've never actually tried Smith & Cult before) so there was no duplications which means the box more than delivered its price in new polishes.
Can we just talk about the Smith & Cult bottle? It's probably one of the most expensive polishes I have in my stash (I think my one Chanel polish is the only one more expensive than it) but you can see why. The bottle is something of beauty. It's perfect for sitting on your vanity and the heavy lid actually serves a purpose as the intentional dents that allow your fingers to sit comfortably while you're painting. It's definitely a brand I might look into if I feel like treating myself to a bit of luxe polish (because that's what I need, more nail polish...)
Anyway, onto the shades! Porn-a-thon is a pastel peachy tone. It's got a really creamy formula and it takes three thin coats to get full opacity. Chelsea Embankment is a beautiful gold glitter polish from Nails Inc. I tried to create a subtle gradient with the glitter, varying the amount of pressure I used when applying the polish but if I was using it normally, you'd get full opacity in two or three coats, which is pretty darn good for a glitter. I used Feel the Burn for the scalloped tips. It's a warm, slightly dark red which will probably pop up again on the blog. I used a striper brush to create a chevron tip for each nail. Once I filled in the tip and made sure it was opaque, I used a dotter to create the scalloped edge. Then, using Porn-a-thon and a smaller dotting tool, I dotted inside the red dots to create a cut out effect. Finish the look off with the gold square studs in the middle of the tip and top coat.
If you're into nail polishes (which I assume you are if you're on this blog!) then give Meebox a go. This month's theme is Kawaii (which will be awesome!) so if you're a fan of all thing Japanese, check out the subscription plan here. You'll always get back the money you pay for the box and more and if you get any duplicates from your stash? Be a great friend and give them to someone, share the love!
What look would you conjure up with this red carpet box? Let me know in the comments below, until next time :)
