Models Own Sweet Shop Collection Review + Swatches (Pear Drops*, Liquorice Allsorts* and Rhubarb and Custard*)
So while the rest of us are enjoying the glorious sunshine these past few weeks, Models Own have been hard at work on their latest collection, Sweet Shop! Following up on their Fruit Pastels collection, the brand has five new smelly polishes that inspires childhood nostalgia with scents like Fizzy Cola Bottle, Gumball, Liquorice Allsorts*, Pear Drops* and Rhubarb and Custard*. I've got three of these polishes to show you guys so follow me under the cut for some fab new polishes and dramatic confessions LOL.
When I first saw the pictures of the new Sweet Shop collection, I had my eye on Rhubarb and Custard immediately. Not only are they still one of my favourite sweets but the raspberry colour with the small silver glitter looked like nothing I have in my collection. The above swatches are with two coats of Rhubarb and Custard and no top coat.
The polish has a jelly consistency and so is semi-sheer but as you can see, all you need is two coats to get an even colour across the nail. The polish looks a lot more textured in the photo than it is in real life but any raised glitter will be smoothed over by a top coat.
Of course, you are all wondering about the smell. OH. MY. GOD. This polish just has the most delicious tart rhubarb smell and although the sweetness from the custard doesn't come through all that much, I'm not complaining because my nails still smell so darn good!
So I'll let you into a little secret, I DETEST LIQUORICE. I hate the smell, I hate the taste, anything liquorice or aniseed just turns my stomach so I can confirm for you that Liquorice Allsorts smells EXACTLY like Liquorice Allsorts. The scent is really strong and you don't even need to wait for it to dry before you smell it's scent. Like Rhubarb and Custard, the above swatches of Liquorice Allsorts are of two coats and no top coat. It's your standard black creme polish and if you're a liquorice fan looking for a new black polish then check this out.
Pear Drops is the perfect coral shimmer shade for Summer. I love how Models Own have played with glitter and shimmer to replicate the sugar coatings of our fave sweets without having to deal with a textured polish. Much like Rhubarb and Custard, Pear Drops has a semi-sheer consistency, like many shimmer polishes but you only need two thin coats like the rest of the polishes I've tried from the collection to get an even, opaque coat.
The scent from Pear Drops is probably the weaker of the polishes I've tried from the Sweet Shop collection so far but it is still there for sure. Even if you're not into the whole scented nail polish trend, this polish is such a unique shade that the colour alone should be a selling point, not just the scent.
Anyone feeling nostalgic yet? I love the idea of a nail polish collection inspired by retro sweets and by combining this with scented polish, I think Models Own are on to a winner. The bottles also have the cute scratch n sniff stickers that are on their Fruit Pastel polishes so that's another cute detail.
In terms of colour, my favourite would be Pear Drops. You know I can't resist a coral and this little shimmery number is perfect for jazzing up a Summer manicure. In terms of scent, Rhubarb and Custard wins hands down. The tart smell of the polish puts a smile on my face and the gorgeous raspberry red colour will be great in the Autumn/Winter.
The Models Own Sweet Shop Collection will be available from the Models Own website on the 25th July and in Superdrug stores from the 30th July and are each priced at £5.00. I can't wait to get my hands on Fizzy Cola Bottles and I might just give Gumdrops a little look over too!
I hope you guys have enjoyed these swatches and reviews of the new Sweet Shop collection from Models Own and didn't find it too tedious LOL.
